AWD Volunteers

Truth and Reconciliation

We are deeply committed to reconciliation, responding to Call to Action 92 with meaningful initiatives:

  • Land Acknowledgment: Recognizing our presence on Treaty 6 Territory and the Métis Homeland at all YXE public meetings.
  • National Day of Truth and Reconciliation: Acknowledging the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation each year to recognize and commemorate the intergenerational trauma that residential schools have caused to Indigenous families and communities.
  • Hiring: Job applicants are encouraged to self-identify as Indigenous persons and/or other minorities to ensure equitable access and considerations. Diversity means fostering a workplace where differences are recognized, appreciated, respected, and responded to in ways that fully develop and utilize each person’s talents and strengths.
  • Indigenous Awareness Education: Training all staff on Indigenous history and culture.
  • Indigenous Art: Featuring commissioned works by local artists in our terminal.
  • Indigenous Engagement:
    • Kahkewistahaw First Nation Partnership: Collaborating on airspace zoning and infrastructure for their new business hub.
    • Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies: Supporting Indigenous-led aviation training programs.
    • Supporting Northern Connectivity: As the gateway to Saskatchewan’s north, YXE works with Indigenous-owned airlines like Rise Air to strengthen connections for people, goods, and medical services in remote communities.
