Governance

Strong Governance at YXE

At YXE Saskatoon Airport, strong governance drives our commitment to sustainability, operational excellence, and stakeholder trust. Guided by an independent Board of Directors, our governance framework ensures responsible resource management and the airport’s ongoing financial viability while contributing to the local, national, and international economy.

Leadership and Oversight

Independent Board of Directors

YXE Saskatoon Airport is governed by a 12-member independent Board of Directors composed of experienced members with diverse backgrounds, skills, and experiences. The Board is a community-based, non-politicized, professional team of directors making informed decisions in accordance with their policy and fiduciary roles.

Commitment to ESG Principles

Our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy is deeply integrated into our culture, upheld by the Board’s dedication to compliance, transparency, and ethical practices. ESG initiatives are reviewed annually to align with our strategic goals and community values.

Strategic Oversight

The Board actively oversees the implementation of our Strategic Plan (2023–2027), Business Plan, and ESG initiatives. Senior management identifies priorities, evaluates risks, and promotes a culture of integrity across all levels of the organization.

Board Committees

Our Board fulfills its responsibilities through four dedicated committees, each meeting at least quarterly to ensure robust oversight.

Governance Committee:

Focuses on board renewal, committee formation, governance processes, and human resources oversight.

Audit and Finance Committee:

Monitors financial performance, facilitates effective and regular communication with auditors, and ensures that effective internal controls, policies and systems are in place to manage the Corporation’s principal financial risks.

Safety, Health and Environment Committee:

Oversees safety, health, environmental, and security practices, ensuring compliance with policies and recommending enhancements.

Community Consultative Committee:

Facilitates the dialogue with community stakeholders to effectively disseminate information on airport matters and plans, foster service excellence, and support local initiatives and feedback.

Risk Management

Proactive risk management is at the core of our governance framework, ensuring operational resilience and strategic foresight. Our comprehensive Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework identifies, evaluates, and mitigates risks across key areas, including operations, finance, and safety. With 211 documented risks, our approach includes annual reassessments, mitigation strategies, and quarterly reporting to the Board.

Transparent and Ethical Practices

YXE Saskatoon Airport is committed to fostering a culture of ethics and transparency. Our governance ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices while encouraging collaboration and innovation. By prioritizing sustainable growth, we contribute to the economic prosperity of our community and stakeholders.

Supporting Regional Growth

YXE Saskatoon Airport plays a pivotal role in connecting local communities to global markets, fostering economic growth, and improving living standards through strategic investments and expanded air service.

Infrastructure Development

  • Apron VI and VII: Planned expansions support general aviation and maximize leasable space for future development.
  • YXE Club: A new general aviation hangar suite on Apron VI includes 12 operational hangars. When the leased footprint is fully built out, YXE Club will have 30 new general aviation hangars.

Strengthening Connectivity

  • Northern Access: Airlines like Rise Air, a 100% Indigenous-owned company, and Good Spirit Air Service, a locally owned and operated company, connect Saskatoon to rural and northern communities, enhancing vital transport links.
  • Expanded Air Service: New direct flights to Toronto (YYZ) with Porter Airlines, Montreal (YUL) with Air Canada, and Minneapolis (MSP) with WestJet add one-stop access to over 100 destinations worldwide, boosting tourism and trade opportunities.

Cargo Operations

  • Infrastructure Investment: A $2.9M cargo apron facilitates efficient logistics and attracts increased cargo operations.
  • Key Operators: Cargojet, Morning Star (FedEx), and Skylink Express handled over 1,696 aircraft movements in 2024, bolstering Saskatoon’s role in global supply chains.
